AI training for employees: what the AI Act requires.
Do companies have to train their staff in AI?
Yes, if they use AI, and ChatGPT for ad copy already counts. Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 of the AI Act has required measures for the AI literacy of staff. Since 27 July 2026 the duty is worded more mildly: companies support the development of AI literacy but do not have to guarantee any particular level. According to the European Commission, no certificate is needed; an internal record of training is enough.
What counts as a measure
Training or internal rules, matched to each person’s role and prior knowledge. In the European Commission’s view, just asking staff to read the instructions for use is often not enough. Anyone using ChatGPT should know, for example, that it can make up facts.
Who checks, and what to record
In Germany the supervisory authority is the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), with powers since August 2026. It recommends recording the measures: what was covered, when and with whom.
Where the workshop fits
The workshop is one such measure for the team that will work with agents. Participants watch an agent work on a real task from their day and decide, for each use case, what a human approves. For your internal record, note the date, the agenda and the participants.
